Flora and fauna:

Uttarakhand lies at the slopes of Himalayas owing to which the elevation varies to a great extent in the state. This variation in elevation has led to highly varied and rich flora and fauna in the region. The highest elevation parts of the state are covered by bare rocks and ice. At an elevation of around 9800 to 16000 feet one can find montanne grasslands and shrublands comprising of Alpine shrubs and meadows. Below 9800 feet up to 8500 feet one can see temperate coniferous and subalpine coniferous forests. Gangegtic plains are covered by deciduous forests and the lowlands along the border of Uttar Pradesh witness savanna and grasslands. This varied forest cover is home to many animals and birds and thus, Uttarakhand has many national parks and sanctuaries.

Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park of India located in Nainital. Valley of Flowers and Nanda Devi National Park are located in Chamoli district. Other national parks are - Rajaji National Park, Haridwar, Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, Uttarakash, Gangotri National Park, Uttarakashi.

  • Nainital: Best time to visit this place is from March to June and September to October barring the rainy season. One can reach Nainatal via flight, rail, and road. The nearest airport is in Pantnagar, nearest railway station is Kathgodam, and Nainital is well connected with all the states, cities of North India. Hanumangarhi is the famous Lord Hanuman temple in Nainital. Khurpatal, Lariakanta, Land's End, Naine Peak, Naina Lake, Snow View, etc., are the most sought after tourist destinations in Nainital.
